Man Caught Using Cc Purchased From The Dark Web to Buy $2k Worth Of Electronics From a PA BestBuy Store

A vigilant employee at Best Buy in Greensburg helped police catch a man accused of identity theft

Vaughn L, 46, was arrested after police indicated he tried to use a fake identity on two separate occasions to buy electronics from the store.

Police said Loughorn admitted to obtaining the victim’s information from the dark web.

“For less than $ 100, this information could appear on a Pennsylvania driver’s license, ” police chief John Otto said.

Police said Lawhorn had this license with the victim’s information and Lawhorn’s photo, and they said the forgery was difficult to detect.

“These driver’s licenses will trick you, and me, and most people with basic knowledge to spot fraudulent driver’s licenses,” Otto said.

Otto stated that the perpetrator tried to use this license as a way to access the victim’s Best Buy credit card. The store noticed some inconsistencies in Lawrence’s information and canceled the purchase.

“The victim in this case was very smart with his information. He’s not a fool, and he’s not someone who puts out his information all the time, ” Otto said. – It’s very easy for anyone to gather most people’s personalities, so you have to come up with a way to protect yours as well as you can.”

Lawhorn was arrested Wednesday night and denied bail. Police said he is wanted on similar charges in several States, including California and Maryland.
